Dragon King Spring Sakura Katana - Forged

The sakura, or cherry blossom, blooms brilliantly for a brief moment before falling, a metaphor long associated with the samurai ideal of a glorious death in battle. This differentially tempered katana by Dragon King carries that theme through its fittings, from the crimson handle wrap to the cherry blossom motif on the tsuba and menuki.

The 27 1/2" blade is forged from 5160 steel and differentially tempered, giving it a hardened HRC 60 edge backed by a more flexible HRC 40 spine. The handle is wrapped in traditional same (ray skin) beneath crimson tsuka-ito, finished with a silver habaki and notched seppa. The black lacquered saya features a buffalo horn koiguchi and wooden kurikata with a black sageo.
