The francisca is a Frankish throwing axe used widely by early medieval Germanic warriors, including the Franks and Vikings, both as a thrown weapon and in close combat. The upswept point and downturned edge were designed to punch through mail armor and shields on impact.
This reproduction is forged by Paul Chen at the Hanwei factory. The head is high-carbon steel with an antiqued finish, mounted on a swelled-end hardwood shaft for secure retention. The shaft is backswept, as on period originals, to improve sticking on a thrown impact.
