Shinken of Swords Clay Tempered Kobuse Folded Steel Wakazashi

A traditionally inspired Japanese wakizashi built for functional cutting and classical craftsmanship accuracy. Constructed using a kobuse lamination with a forged AISI 1060 steel core and T10 high carbon steel jacket, the blade is folded 10 times to produce approximately 1024 layers for structural integrity and refined steel grain.

The edge is differentially clay tempered to achieve a hardened cutting edge (~58 HRC) and a more flexible spine, improving durability under impact while producing a natural hamon. The blade is finished in a shinogi-zukuri geometry with a chu-kissaki tip and polished to a razor-sharp edge suitable for tameshigiri, including tatami mats, straw, and bamboo.

Fittings are traditional brass construction including tsuba, fuchi, and kashira, secured with a brass habaki and dual seppa for stability. The tsuka features a wooden core wrapped in genuine ray skin (samegawa) and black cotton ito, secured with two mekugi pegs and fully disassemblable for maintenance.

The saya is crafted from hardwood with a lacquer finish and includes a sageo cord tied at the kurigata for traditional carry.
